The Helium mobile network has what they proposals (HIPs) that get voted on amongst the crypto token holders. This is what governs the rules and earnings potential of deployed CBRS radios and Wifi hotspots. This page has been setup for quick reference on key proposals impacting the network.
IMPORTANT: Anyone can help influence the Helium network in a positive way and can submit a HIP into the network by clicking this link on how to propose a new HIP.
HIP Latest Updates - Updated 5/22/2024
Helium Updates and HIPs are below. You should only trust information coming from Helium officially to hold accuracy and be up to date.
HIP 126 - Outlines a new pricing model for the Helium mobile model. It is currently set at a certain amount per 1 GB. It would allow hotspot owners to set their prices. Can also set optimal prices for the hotspots.
HIP 125 - Temporary anti-gaming measure that will invalidate boosted hexes rewards by the service provider.
HIP 122 - Amend service provider hex boosting. When service provider chooses they want to boost as example in Miami, this HIP puts limitations on that. Rewards come out of the service provider bucket (redirect out of regular pool to service provider pool). If you want to receive your boosted rewards, you have to stake your NFT in the hex for a given amount of time to receive boosted rewards.
HIP 121 - Sets a maximum boost limit to 20X instead of 100X. In Miami, they were giving 100X boosts and this sets a limit on the hex boost.
HIP 120 - Require all mobile hotspots to pass 1 DC over 14 days. This will allow you to receive a 1x multiplier by passing 1 DC every 14 days. This is an alternative to HIP 111 worded as DC versus 1MB. If you do not pass 1 DC, you will only earn 50% rewards.
HIP 119 - Not Voted On Yet - Would set maximum height for 100' for outdoor wifi units. Coverage will simulate it so there will not be credits past 100' in the air. Also, the trust score multiplier will be impacted by the proximity of where the radios are set. There is additional criteria for meeting proximity to boosted hexes.
HIP 118 - Introduce a new way to validate hotspots. This is an effort to reduce the gaming of the system. Will not be able to get boosted rewards unless verifier verifies the location. If a verification mapper hasn't been by your equipment in the last 7 days, this will result in a 0.5 reduction.
HIP 113 - Approved Already - CBRS targeted as experimental - Reduction (on average) of 42% to 50% in earnings on average. This goes into effect on May 10th, 2024.
HIP 111 - Not Voted On Yet - This would introduce a requirement that you must pass 1MB of data a week to earn 10x rewards. This means you will receive less rewards if not doing this. My understanding is since CBRS has connection issues, this would benefit Wifi more than CBRS equipment holders at this time. The longer per week you pass, there is also a multiplier that boosts rewards additionally.
HIP 110 - Up For Vote Again - This would allow others to vote on your behalf if you assign your voting power. Already passed in IOT and MOBILE. This is now just for vote on veHNT.
HIP 103 - Approved Already - Implementation being finished for reduction of water rewards.
